Romania is the second biggest trading partner of Bulgaria for 2019, according to data from the National Statistical Institute until September 2019. Last year, the country ranked third among EU countries, behind Germany and Italy, but the figures so far indicate that most likely, when the data for the last quarter is processed, Italy will give up its second place.
Total exports from Bulgaria to Romania by the end of September 2019 was BGN 4.27 billion (an increase of 6.9% compared to 2018), and total imports for the same period were BGN 3.85 billion (an increase of 6.2% from a year earlier) ). The trade balance between the two countries amounts to BGN 419 million in favor of Bulgaria.
For the first 9 months of 2019, Bulgaria ranked 7th as an export destination of Romanian goods (4.5% of their total exports to EU countries), and for the same period, 4% of all imports to Romania from EU countries came from Bulgaria.
