Temporary limitations for entering Bulgaria


An Order of the Minister of Health introduces a temporary ban on entering the territory of Bulgaria from December 1, 2020 until January 31, 2021. The restriction is applicable to all persons, regardless of their citizenship, all border checkpoints, by air, sea, rail and road transport.

The restriction is not applicable to Bulgarian citizens, the citizens of all EU member states, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, countries in the Schengen area (incl. the Republic of San Marino, Principality of Andorra, Principality of Monaco and Vatican city) and members of their families (incl. people who are living together with them); citizens of Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Rwanda, the Republic of Korea, Kindom of Thailand, the Republic of Tunisia, Uruguay, the United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, the Republic of Northern Macedonia, the Republic of Serbia, the Republic of Albania, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, the Republic of Moldova, Israel, Kuwait, the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Turkey; people, who have a permanent or long-term residence on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria, as well as members of their families; people, who possess a Bulgarian visa for a long-term residense, type „D“, as well as people, who have a permission to reside in a member state of the EU and members of their families; medical specialists; workers, who deliver medicines, medical products and personal protective equipment; officials and persons traveling for humanitarian reasons; seasonal workers; participants in international sports and cultural events.

Only transit through the territory of Bulgaria is allowed. Passing in transit is only allowed in the cases, when the person can guarantee his/her immediate departure from the territory of the country.
